Oltre Venture was the first Social Venture Capital fund in Italy. Oltre Venture aims to make investments that are able to combine long-term capital return and social and economic value for the community, by promoting and supporting start-ups and existing companies that contribute towards addressing unmet social needs. Oltre I is the fund that was created in 2006 as a strategic evolution of the Oltre Foundation, established in 2002 by Luciano Balbo, which operated in keeping with a Venture Philanthropy approach. Oltre I made 14 investments between 2006 and 2016, while the new Oltre II fund has raised around €36 Mln in commitments from private and institutional investors, including approximately €17 Mln from the EIF.
