Fondazione Social Venture Giordano Dell’Amore

Ecos-Med

Ecos-Med is a mixed social cooperative founded in Messina in 1998, working in urban and territorial regeneration through a model that integrates environmental innovation, social inclusion, and sustainable local development. Fondazione Social Venture Giordano Dell’Amore has invested €200,000 in Ecos-Med as part of “Impact4Coop”, a programme promoted by FSVGDA together with Fondazione Cariplo, which provides €3.6 million with the aim of supporting the development of the cooperative sector and strengthening its ability to generate scalable social impact.

The capital increase includes the use of an “Impact Grant”, an innovative financial instrument that allows part of the equity investment to be converted into a non-repayable grant, subject to the achievement of pre-agreed social impact targets.

Impact

Ecos-Med was founded with the aim of promoting sustainable territorial development models based on the integration of social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and the economic growth of local communities. Throughout its history, it has developed an intervention model grounded in the TSR® methodology (Socially Responsible Territories), which interprets the territory as a relational system in which economic development, environmental sustainability, and social cohesion are closely interconnected dimensions.

The cooperative’s activities are currently structured into four strategic areas: territorial planning and design, services for social-green enterprises, educational and socio-occupational inclusion policies, and production activities oriented towards the ecological transition. Through these areas of intervention, Ecos-Med supports public administrations, social enterprises, and local communities in building pathways of sustainable development and social innovation.

Over the years, the cooperative has contributed to the implementation of major urban regeneration and community development initiatives, including the Parco Sociale di Forte Petrazza and the Parco Horcynus Orca, as well as supporting the establishment of the Fondazione di Comunità di Messina. In parallel, it has supported more than 250 social-green enterprises in their start-up and consolidation processes and carried out over 700 personalized social and employment inclusion pathways.

Among the most significant experiences is the “Luce è Libertà” programme, which enabled the social reintegration of more than 50 former inmates of the Judicial Psychiatric Hospital of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto.

Since 2021, Ecos-Med has entered a new development phase through the Roccavaldina Olivettian Hub project, created from the regeneration of a disused industrial area and designed as an integrated infrastructure dedicated to research, training, innovation, and sustainable production.

Within the Hub, the ecobuddy® project has been developed: an industrial line that transforms agro-food waste and by-products into biocompounds and biodegradable materials, promoting circular economy models and contributing to the reduction of environmental impact across production chains.

FSV GDA’s investment will support the completion of the development plan of the Roccavaldina Olivettian Hub and the growth of the ecobuddy® facility, contributing to the creation of new jobs and the dissemination of sustainable production models across territories.

Through its activities, Ecos-Med contributes to the achievement of SDGs 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action).
