Leila S.r.l. is an innovative start-up that has developed a model for sharing objects through physical and digital libraries, supported by a dedicated technology platform for managing loans, reservations, and returns. Its goal is to make goods collectively accessible to more people, avoiding unnecessary purchases. In this sense, Leila views the circular economy not simply as a virtuous model focused on waste prevention, but as a shift in the way we approach the use and sharing of resources, capable of fostering a widespread and tangible transition towards more responsible consumption models.
Founded in 2023 to provide an entrepreneurial structure to an initiative that had already begun in 2016 with the establishment of Italy’s first “Library of Things,” Leila has embarked on a growth path aimed at making its model replicable and scalable at both national and international level. Over the years, the start-up has developed partnerships with municipalities, companies, universities, Third Sector organisations, and schools, contributing to the creation of a national network of “Libraries of Things.” Today, the network comprises 12 active Libraries across 6 Italian regions, with thousands of loans recorded every year. This journey does not stem simply from the development of a technology platform, but from a methodology that integrates technology, relationships, community building, and governance, with the aim of implementing a robust and long-lasting sharing model.
In January 2026, Leila was selected as “Best Start-up For Impact” at the Get it! Investor Day, receiving a €50,000 investment from the Fondazione Social Venture Giordano Dell’Amore, the strategic and operational arm of Fondazione Cariplo, as part of its impact investing activities and promoter of the programme, in partnership with Factory Plus.
The Foundation’s investment reflects its objective of supporting organisations capable of combining economic sustainability with social and environmental impact. The Foundation’s equity investment will support Leila during the development and consolidation of its business model, helping to transform an experience that originated at the local level into a sharing infrastructure that can be adopted by organisations, companies, public administrations, and communities in different contexts.
